sometimes in fall

we ordered tulip bulbs. this is a progress report: the damn chickens ate the tulip leaves as they emerged the end of february. no matter. the bulbs grew, the flowers are/were spectacular. these are early tulips, species, of the kaufmannia kind. so here they are, in full bloom, tightly grown in an apple box, and in the ground, chicken-cropped greens and all, but today, flowers cut so they don't make seed. this to encourage bulb growth, these bulbs to be dug after their leaves have browned. once dug they will be repositioned, spaced better, more apart. details in july.

and suddenly today a beautiful trillium. who knows where it came from, a lovely visitor though.
